Self Respect

What is self respect?

How does one earn it? It would seem that self-respect is given to you by you. Meaning, you respect who you are and what you do. But many times, people don't respect who they are, simply because of what they do.

Can one have respect for someone who doesn't respect themselves? It's very hard. It's the same as looking at a male and knowing and seeing he is male, yet at the same time, you think he's a female. It doesn't work. You can fabricate any reality for yourself, you can be as imaginative as possible, at the end of the day, he is still male and you still don't respect yourself.

Fortunately, this is something one can correct in themselves, they could take the easy way or the hard way. It varies from situation to situation, but people are generally very clever and don't need to be told what it is they need to change. If you are embarrassed by something you do, because you feel it's wrong or inappropriate, it probably is. If you can't feel good about yourself knowing that those who love you know certain things about you, then you know what those things are that need to be changed.

On the flip side, people are more content with not changing, with remaining the same, because let's face it, change, it's hard. There are those out there who are willing to help, however. People are on this earth to know one another, to learn from one another, and to love one another. If we don't do these three things, we are missing an essential part of what makes us human.

This message is for all and for me. Not to be taken lightly. If you want to change, you have to take the first step and never look back. If you feel nothing is wrong and you are perfect, then stay they way you are and don't expect anything from anyone.
